The Fairness Doctrine is Unfair
According to the so-called Fairness Doctrine, the government should regulate political opinion broadcasts to insure that both sides are equally represented. A bi-partisan article in National Review Online shows the weakness and danger in this proposal. It would be impossible, as a matter of practice, to enforce. And who says that are only two views to any given issue anyway? How could anyone insure that ALL viewpoints receive equal coverage without overlooking someone or favoring someone or essentially silencing someone else. What we can and must insure is that unprejudiced opportunties exist for everyone to express their perspectives.
