African Bishop Calls for the Church of England to be Suspended from Anglicanism
Peter Akinola is the influential Anglican Primate of Nigeria who has been most outspoken against the Episcopal Church – USA for consecrating an openly homosexual bishop. Now he’s at it again, persistent fellow. Apparently, the Church of England passed some goofy rule allowing their gay priests to get married as long as they promise not to have gay sex with their partners. Isn’t that one of the stupidest things you’ve ever heard? Just how do they plan to enforce that? What’s the point? Because of such craziness, Archbishop Akinola is recommending that the Church of England be suspended from the Anglican Communion. Just you wait. Soon we’ll be hearing people calling him divisive. Here’s the article.

I seriously thought you were making the part about being married, but not having sex part up. Isn’t this the one where the one armed midget comes in? You’d think that from reading scripture, praying, etc. that basic ideas of faith would be easy to comprehend. Especially from our church leadership. I think Francis Schaeffer had the right idea to pray for workers only God wants us to have.

Cubicle,
Y’know, I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

This makes me feel better about the ELCA’s position. Not.

Isn’t the Church of England a state church? They could solicit the police to bust into priests’ bedrooms…

I admire Peter Akinola and the help he has give some men I know here in the US. His institution of Missionary “Flying Bishops” in the US has been a blessing to many of the Christian remnant in the ECUSA. I also agree with his moves against Heterodoxy in the Church of England. I am however troubled by your post. How do we point out the mite in the eye of the Church of England while we in the LCMS have the Behnke log in our own eye. I mean gay “marriage” versus Worshiping False Gods on Nation Television is a problem. Can we in the LCMS cast stones at other heterodox bodies?

Hi jboc,
It seems to me that your logic here would apply better if Benke were to criticize the C of E. I didn’t participate in a syncretistic service, nor have I been silent in my criticism of those who do. I don’t have that particular mote in my own eye. I choose, for reasons of my own, not to use the forum of my blog to air the woes and sins of my own synod. But don’t mistake that for complacency. And in addition, if only members of completely pure church bodies may correct or rebuke their fellows, then no one ever would.
